Support Stadium Manager and Head Groundsman Ian Darler by joining him on part of his virtual journey to Berlin, to raise money for the Cambridge, Peterborough, and South Lincolnshire (CPSL) Mind Charity...
Ian is calling for U's fans to join him on Sunday 26 May as he sets off on another leg of his 678 mile, 1.2 million step walk, the equivalent of walking to Berlin ahead of the EUFA 2024 final to be held in the German capital.
The 3.5 mile route will start at the Cledara Abbey Stadium, follow the Chisholme trail to the River Cam and go up to Horningsea before returning back to the stadium. The main car park will be open from 9:45am for attendees to leave their cars before the walk sets off from the stadium at 10:30am.
Ian set off on his 678 mile venture on 30 March, and has so far completed 700,000 steps and 380 miles - setting him up well to reach his goal of completing the challenge before the July 14 final.
Ian's motive behind the challenge is to raise money and awareness for CPSL Mind, having previously had struggles with depression and PTSD. He wants to share his story and support others going through similar struggles.
“Since my recovery and publication of my book ‘Life’s A Pitch’ and writing the chapter Life Changing, I have been approached by several people who had been struggling in silence with their own mental health problems and thankfully I have been able to help them in a small way and they are now currently also in a much better place," Ian explained.
Ian hopes through his walk, he might help others start the discussion about mental health in their workplaces and homes, a hope shared by CPSL Mind’s Fundraising and Communications Manager Gary Sutcliffe.
“We are so grateful to Ian for embarking on what will be a lot of walking over the coming months and raising funds for our vital work,” said Gary.
