Boardroom

Shaun Grady
Chairman of the Board

Shaun Grady, Vice President of Business Development Operations at Cambridge-based pharmaceutical giants AstraZeneca, accepted an invitation to join Cambridge United's Board of Directors in December 2016.

AstraZeneca have been collaborating with Cambridge United Community Trust since November 2015, with the multinational biopharmaceutical company supporting the 'Active Science' programme that aims to increase primary school children's enthusiasm for science. Shaun's appointment brings additional experience to the Board and is another step in the strengthening relationship between the Club and AstraZeneca.

Eddie Clark
Director

A life-long supporter and Club partner, Eddie Clark joined the United Board in May 2012. Eddie was soon elected to the role of vice-chairman in January 2013, which he recently relinquished.

Eddie's proven business acumen complement the expertise of the current Board. Along with his wife Ruth, Eddie runs a family haulage business in Haddenham and regularly sponsors matches, supports the players' away travel and several members of his extended family are involved with matchday roles at the Club.

Graham Daniels
Director

Graham joined the board in June 2013 in his capacity as Chair of the Cambridge United Youth and Community Trust.

Graham initially joined Cambridge United as a player in the early 1980s, moving from Cardiff City in his native Wales. He subsequently played for, and managed, Cambridge City and Histon and has been very involved in Cambridgeshire and East Anglian football management for many years.

Since 2002, Graham has been the General Director of Christians in Sport and he has a PhD in the study of identity formation in Christian professional footballers.

On his appointment to the United Board, he said, 'It's an honour to join the leadership team of this marvellous club. I will try to play my part in making the city of Cambridge proud of our football club both in the way it performs on the pitch and in the impact it makes on our wider community.'

Renford Sargent
Director

A U's fan for over 50 years, Renford brings a wealth of commercial experience to the board from his role as chairman for the Premier Travel Group; an International Travel Company that employs over 200 people in the Cambridge area.

He has been active in the Cambridge area for a long time, and has been a Holidays and Travel presenter for BBC Radio Cambridge for nearly 20 years. Renford is also a keen golfer, and has been a member at Gog Magog Golf Club for 35 years.

Renford said: "People and their cultures are my greatest interest so to travel the world for a living and support the U's has given me a fortunate life.

"I found that most would rather talk football than hotel contracts and it's no surprise that there are now U's fans in some of the worlds more remote places!"

Christoph Loch
Director

Christoph Loch is a former Director (Dean) of Cambridge Judge Business School at the University of Cambridge. Professor Loch took office on 1 September 2011, having previously held the position of GlaxoSmithKline Chaired Professor of Corporate Innovation and Professor of Technology and Operations Management at INSEAD, where he also served as Dean of the INSEAD PhD programme from 2006-2009.

Loch holds a PhD in business from the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University, an MBA from the University of Tennessee, and a Diplom-Wirtschaftsingenieur degree from the Darmstadt University of Technology.

Christoph joined the Cambridge United Board of Directors in February 2016.

Jenny Horsfield
Director

Jenny, Senior Vice President of business development and the Chief Financial Officer at Carrick Therapeutics, accepted an invitation to be the Club’s first female Director in May 2020.

Prior to her appointment on the Board, Jenny has been a Trustee of the Cambridge United Community Trust since 2016 and, during her previous role at AstraZeneca, was instrumental in setting up the Trust’s Active Science programme that aims to increase primary school children’s enthusiasm for science through sport. Jenny was also one of ten women with Board-level potential to take part in the FA’s inaugural Women’s Leadership Programme run out of Wembley Stadium, which aims to increase the number of women in leadership roles, in football generally, and particularly in the Boardroom.

Dave Matthew-Jones
CFU Fans Elected Director - Club SLO - Click here

Dave was appointed as Fans Elected Director in February 2016. Having supported the club since 1970 and been a key figure for the club's official supporter's group Cambridge Fans United for many years, Dave is the perfect fit to represent the Club's supporters on the Board of Directors.

Godric Smith
Director

He was the Prime Minister's Official Spokesman from 2001-2004. He left to become Communications Director at London 2012 from 2006 to the end of the Games before co founding Inc in 2013. Inc is a communications, marketing and strategy consultancy based in London. Godric has been a Board Member of Cambridge Junction since 2013. He was awarded a CBE in 2004.

Ian Mather
Director

Ian had a long career in Cambridge as a solicitor specialising in employment law. He advised the club in the late 80’s and 90’s. On retirement from partnership in Mills & Reeve in May 2018 Ian joined the board of the club. In July 2019 he stepped down from the board to undertake the role of CEO in an interim capacity for one year. The mixture of Covid and promotion meant the role was extended until May 2022 when he returned to the board on the appointment of Alex Tunbridge as CEO.

Ian is well known in the business community and has been President of the Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce and Chairman of Cambridge Ahead. He is currently Chairman of Cambridge Arts Theatre.

Director

Dion played for United from 1988 to 1992, scoring 73 goals as the Club won successive promotions, reached the play-offs for the inaugural Premier League and played a major part in the U’s twice reaching the 6th Round of the FA Cup. He joined the Board in July 2021.
