Glenn McConnell signs new deal

Cambridge United are pleased to announce that Glenn McConnell has signed a new three-year contract with the Club…

The 19-year-old started his United career as an Under 9 and has progressed right through the Academy, before signing his first professional contract in 2021.

In his first season as a pro, McConnell enjoyed a successful loan spell at St Albans City, where he scored five goals from 20 appearances.

Last season saw McConnell make his debut for the Club away at Leyton Orient – and he would go on to make seven appearances in total for the First Team in 2023/24.

He now signs a new three-year contract as he aims to push for a regular place in the United First Team squad.

“It was an easy decision for me to sign as I believe the Club is heading in a really good direction both on-and-off the pitch,” McConnell said.

“I feel as though I am in a position where I can impact the team. I am also very excited to work with the manager as his philosophy and style of play are similar to mine.

“This past season was a good season for me getting my first few appearances in the first team and although it didn’t end how I wanted, I have been working hard to get stronger and fitter so I can come back with a bang this summer.”

Garry Monk added, "We are delighted that Glenn has chosen to commit his future to Cambridge United for the next three years. We are all aligned in our belief that he has huge potential and that he is ready to contribute to the First Team in a meaningful way.

"I have been really impressed with the way in which Glenn has conducted himself in the time I have been at the Club and I am really looking forward to working with him over the next few years.”
