Cambridge United are delighted to announce that seven young players have signed their full scholarships with the Academy...
Jasper Briggs, Randy Bulakio, Harry Dawson, Ty Ewens-Findlay, Peter Holmes, George Munday and Danny Tyler Cowlin have all been inducted into the Academy's scholarship programme.
Both Ewens-Findlay and Tyler Cowlin featured in last season’s FA Youth Cup run, while Briggs, Bulakio, Dawson, Holmes and Munday were regulars in the 2022/23 U18s Merit League One side during the second half of the season.
At a recently-held scholarship induction evening at the Abbey Stadium, the Young U’s were introduced to what their two years will look like with presentations from Academy Manager Dom Knighton, U18 Lead Coach, Jimmy Unwin and Head of Education, Harsh Joshi. The players met individually with each department to understand the support that they will be provided throughout their scholarship and beyond.
Academy Manager Dom Knighton said, "The scholarship induction evening is a brilliant opportunity to combine the achievement of transitioning from a schoolboy to a scholar with our players and their families whilst understanding that” upon return in pre-season they will move into full time employment for the first time so understanding these demands is crucial.
"Being part of this football club is a privilege and the journey it has been on during the last decade has been remarkable and we have a collective responsibility to ensure that we all play our part in demonstrating high standards and living our values on a daily basis."
Read more about the Club's newest Scholars:
Jasper Briggs
A goalkeeper who has worked very hard to get to this point, JJ is a local lad that has progressed through our schoolboy programme. He has had to face some adversity and challenges which he has overcome, and these challenges have helped him to grow as an individual both on and off the pitch.
Randy Bulakio
Randy is a dynamic striker who can score a wide range of goals. He joined the Academy as an U16 following a successful trial period. A polite and well-mannered young man, who in his short period with the Academy has showed maturity beyond his years.
Harry Dawson
An energetic right back who enjoys both defending and attacking. Harry joined the club in his U16 season from Norwich City after spending eight years with the Canaries. He has a fantastic attitude and his work ethic and mentality is impressive.
Ty Ewens-Findlay
A very athletic centre back with the ability and confidence to start attacks and drive into midfield. Ty joined the academy at the beginning of his U16 year and hit the ground running, featuring in the successful U18s FA Youth Cup run before getting injured.
Peter Holmes
Centre midfielder Peter joined the Academy from Crystal Palace this season. Peter has a fantastic attitude with impressive leadership skills that drive standards and performances from himself and those around him.
George Munday
George has progressed through our schoolboy programme and had to work very hard to achieve his scholarship. George has had a tough time with injuries across the past two seasons and has had to show a lot of resilience while off the pitch. A striker who possesses an eye for goal and can bring others into the game.
Danny Tyler Cowlin
A skilful player who has the ability to score special goals from all areas of the pitch. Danny has worked exceptionally hard this season out of possession, learning his roles and responsibilities to support the team. Unfortunately, Danny suffered a bad injury towards the back end of the season which will require him to undergo surgery and a long rehab period. We wish Danny all the best in his recovery, and we will endeavour to provide Danny all the support he needs on his return to full fitness.
All seven youngsters will be looking to progress on their individual journeys throughout their scholarships, both on-and-off the pitch and this will be supported by our Academy Multi-Disciplinary team.
The Club wishes all of our newest Scholars the best of luck during their time with the U's.
