Cambridge United supporters are to be made aware of a number of changes, improvements and additions to the Abbey Stadium and the Matchday Experience ahead of next season…
Extensive work across the ground has been underway during the Summer months across the following areas:
- Food & Drink:
New catering units have been installed in the Main Stand, South Stand and Habbin, which will include exciting new food and drink options, including locally sourced pies and pasties, gourmet hot dogs and a street eat which will rotate on a game by game basis.
Existing Tea Bars in the Habbin and South Stand have also been converted into Pie & Pint Bars, whilst all other Tea Bars are being refurbished and will include refreshed food and drink choices for fans to enjoy.
In addition, the Abbey Arms has been replaced with a new bar and 30 additional beer pumps have been installed throughout the stadium, making the sale of both food and drink more accessible.
New Fan Zone areas behind the Main Stand and Habbin will include suitable cover, lighting and heating.
All menu’s and pricings have been revised and in the coming weeks, the Club will be launching a Stadium App which will allow supporters to pre-order beer during their visit to the Abbey Stadium.
For the vast majority of games, the Dion Dublin Bar will be reserved for supporters with a Signature Suite Hospitality ticket.
Endeavours to find a solution for supporters in the Newmarket Road End to be able to enjoy the same food and drink options as those in the Habbin and Main Stand remain ongoing.
- Hospitality:
Renovations across the hospitality areas inside the Main Stand are now complete, with thanks to Layrd Design and Regent Construction.
The new Layrd Design Lounge is the Club’s new premium hospitality space, replacing the Executive Lounge, whilst the Boardroom has also been newly renovated.
- Kids’ Zone:
A new Kids’ Zone will be in operation outside the Club Shop from the Saturday 30th July home game against MK Dons. An inflatable goal, a variety of garden games and a Junior U’s membership sign up point will all be open for young fans to enjoy ahead of each home game.
- Stadium Technology:
Significant investments across the IT, CCTV and WiFi systems are currently ongoing as the Club seeks to improve the infrastructure around the ground.
With this in mind, the Club is adopting a cashless policy for the new season, affecting all outlets inside the ground. Cash will still be accepted outside the stadium - in the Shop, Ticket Office and by roaming Programme and 50/50 sellers.
- Press Area:
30 new press benches and additional power points are being installed in the Main Stand, allowing all members of the media to have their own dedicated working space.
- Stadium PA:
New speakers in the Newmarket Road End and technical upgrades across the Stadium PA system are being completed in-order to improve the audio quality of the Matchday audio inside the ground.
- Changing Rooms:
The Home Changing Rooms have been extended to allow greater comfort and ease of access for the First Team players and staff.
- Offices:
The Club’s South Stand based Offices are currently under renovation, converting the two existing offices and physio room into three dynamic offices, including a breakout room for meetings.
Cambridge United looks forward to welcoming everyone back for pre-season and would be grateful if supporters showed patience whilst new systems are being implemented and the final aspects of summer redevelopments are being undertaken.
