Cambridge United is delighted to announce that Lloyd Jones has signed for the Club…
The 25-year-old centre-back has put pen to paper on a two-year deal, following the expiration of his contract at Northampton Town.
After progressing through the youth ranks at Plymouth Argyle, Jones signed a professional contract at Liverpool in 2013 before leaving for Luton Town in 2018. After two season at Kenilworth Road, Jones joined Northampton following an impressive loan spell at the Club.
“It feels really great,” Jones said. “I met the manager a couple of weeks ago and I really liked what he had to say and the way he plays football. It is going to be a proper fresh start for me and I can’t wait to go.”
Head Coach Mark Bonner said, “Lloyd is a really good first signing for us this transfer window as we look to build a solid base to the team. He is an excellent shape and size, handles the ball well and is mobile.
"This gives Lloyd an opportunity to settle in the area and find some stability in his career. Having experienced League One football and with his best years ahead of him, we are expecting him to use his previous experiences to add real value to the team, and to realise his undoubted potential.
“He has lots to prove and has a hunger to make the most of this opportunity within a club that will push, develop and support him.”
Jones’ arrival at the Abbey Stadium means he becomes the U's first new signing of the Summer Transfer Window.
