Young U’s forward Ben Worman starred in a 2-0 win for Bishop’s Stortford as his brace secured victory for the Blues over Bostik League high flyers Haringey Borough.
Worman took his tally to seven goals in 11 appearances since joining Stortford on loan from United, and produced two strikes of the highest quality in each half on Saturday afternoon at the Prokit Stadium.
Meanwhile it was a positive weekend’s work in front of goal for a host of United's youngers on loan across the region. Tom Knowles continued his impressive form for Royston Town grabbing the opening goal in a 1-2 away win for the Crows against bottom of the Evo-Stik League South, Bedworth Town. U’s youngster Joe Neal also featured for an hour for Royston.
Striker Sam Bennett also contributed with a goal for his loan outfit Haverhill Rovers, but it couldn’t help the Suffolk side avoid a 1-2 home defeat at the hands of FC Clacton in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division.
Elsewhere, Matt Foy was also on target for Harlow Town in a disappointing 2-7 defeat to Wingate & Finchley. The striker was brought down through on goal and dusted himself off to tuck away the resulting spot kick, in an otherwise frustrating afternoon for the Hawks as their opponents leapfrogged them in the Bostik League table.
Midfielder Sam Squire gained another full 90 minutes for Needham Market in the Evo-Stik League South, but couldn’t help the Marketmen avoid a 2-1 away defeat against Rushden & Diamonds.
Fellow midfielder Lee Watkins made an appearance from the bench in Cambridge City’s 2-0 victory over Coleshill Town. Finally Jordan Norville-Williams played another full game for St Neots Town and was in the thick of the action as the full back missed a penalty in the Saints’ 1-3 defeat against Lowestoft Town.
