LEGENDS TEA BARS | WANLESS FIRST LEGEND VOTED FOR BY AMBER ARMY!

Cambridge United are delighted to announce King of the Abbey, Paul Wanless, as the first Club legend voted for by the Amber Army in the recent Stadium re-branding poll!

Ahead of the 2018/19 season, the club opened up the opportunity for fans to vote and decide which three players from the U’s 106 year history deserved to have their contribution recognised with a small area of the Abbey Stadium.

In partnership with Mick George, the club will be re-branding three of the catering units and tea bars located around the Abbey on a match day with the name of a former United player, as voted for by the Amber Army.

Having made over 300 appearances, scored almost 50 goals across an eight year spell at the Abbey, where he gave blood, sweat and tears everytime he took the field for the U’s, Paul Wanless has perhaps unsurprisingly been selected by United fans.

All three legends have now been selected, with Wanless in attendance at the Abbey Stadium tomorrow afternoon to officially open “The Paul Wanless Bar” located at the end of the Main Stand.

Cambridge United Chief Operating Officer, Henry Comfort commented: “As a Club we are thrilled to be celebrating those players most cherished by our supporters, such as Paul Wanless, through the years in this way.

“It has been fantastic to see the number of supporters engaging through this vote in selecting the three legends. We very much look forward to not only announcing the remaining winners but also welcoming all three back to the Abbey Stadium on a match day for supporters to show their appreciation.”

The remaining two tea bars that will be re-branded are those located within the primary areas in which our supporters are situated on match day; behind the North Habbin Stand and to the rear of the Newmarket Road End. The nominated legends for these bars will be announced in our upcoming fixtures at the Abbey Stadium.

The shortlist of legends for the Amber Army to vote was as follows:

John Vaughan
Rodney Slack
Brendan Batson
Andy Duncan
Steve Fallon
Alan Kimble
Tom Finney
Steve Spriggs
Paul Wanless
Lee Philpott
John 'Shaggy' Taylor
Josh Coulson

Thank you to every supporter who voted in the poll.
