INTRODUCING THE 12TH FAN…MARTIN BECK

Cambridge United are delighted to introduce this Saturday’s 12th Fan and therefore leading the U’s out at the Abbey Stadium against Yeovil Town, is Martin Beck.

As part of the #UnitedSince1912 campaign, the U's are delighted to introduce the 12th Fan initiative supported by Mick George, which will see a Cambridge United supporter profiled on the Club website and match day programme, occupy the number 12 shirt and lead out the U's at the Abbey Stadium on every match day in 2018/19!

Congratulations Martin! How long have you been supporting Cambridge United? When was the first game you attended and what was it that hooked you to become a supporter of the club?

My first game was a birthday treat behind the mesh in the Newmarket Road End (right side) on the 3rd may 1980, winning 3-2 against Preston North End. I really started supporting properly in the late 80s, even though I lived in Reading at the time. I was lucky to be able to move back home in 2001 and have been a season ticket holder ever since.

Who have you attended the games with during the time you have supported the club and who do you attend the games with now?

At the start it was all about meeting up with the lads around Dessies Post. Ian Andy ,Des ,Saj, Karl, Bass and Webby in the Newmarket Road End (Left side), Then my son Alfie started coming so we had to move to the family stand so that he could see the game. I now sit with my friend Saj and his kids Emma and Max.

As the 12th Fan, what will it mean to you and how proud will you be to lead out the team out of the tunnel on Saturday?

It will truly be an honour to lead out the team with my son Alfie .He thinks Christmas has come early. It's always great to be invited onto the great pitch that Mr Darler and his volunteers have prepared for the players each week. Let's BACK the lads to get a great result to start a good run to get us out of this predicament. C'MON YOU U'S!
