Cambridge United produced their strongest pre-season performance to overcome Ebbsfleet United 0-2 at Stonebridge Road.
Luke Berry went close in the opening ten minutes when the U’s worked a free kick well inside the Ebbsfleet half, to open up space for the midfielder to attempt a mid-range left-footed strike.
Dimitar Mitov was forced to show sharp reactions with a pair of very similar chances for the hosts, which the Bulgarian did well to stop from close range.
Meanwhile, Jordan Norville-Williams delivered a sublime cross into Jabo Ibehre who directed the resulting header fractionally over the bar.
The U’s made eight changes at the break, including Matt Foy, who opened the scoring on 57 minutes when the youngster latched on to the end of a long up field pass before calmly finding the bottom corner from 18 yards with his right foot.
An excellent piece of football between Harrison Dunk and trialist, opened up the opportunity for Adam McGurk to slam home a second for United with 20 minutes remaining.
Minutes later Dimi Mitov was called into action once more, after Harrison Dunk was penalised for bringing down Fleet forward Darren McQueen inside the 18 yard box. The U’s keeper palmed away Danny Kedwell’s effort from the spot though to maintain the clean sheet.
It was United who always looked likely to extend their lead and came when a sweeping counter attacking move on 82 minutes, ended with McGurk whistling a shot inches wide of the near post.
