MATCH PREVIEW: SCUNTHORPE UNITED – CHECKATRADE TROPHY
Cambridge United take on Scunthorpe United tonight at the Cambs Glass Stadium, looking to maintain their 100% winning record in the Checkatrade Trophy.
The U’s go toe-to-toe with the Iron in the final Northern Section Group G clash, with both teams already qualified for the next stage of the Trophy but hoping to secure top spot to ensure a home tie in the second round.
Wins over Shrewsbury Town and Middlesbrough U21s have seen the U’s take maximum points, whilst the competition has also allowed exciting young full back Leon Davies to make his first two professional appearances for the club.
This evening’s visitors arrive at the Cambs Glass Stadium in fine form and will be looking to continue their highly impressive start to the 2016/17 season.
Although Graham Alexander’s side suffered a First Round exit from the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday at the hands of Charlton Athletic, the Iron sit at the summit of the Sky Bet League One table following a blistering start to their campaign.
Like the U’s, they also head into tonight’s fixture with a 100% record in the Checkatrade Trophy having defeated Middlesbrough U23s 2-1 in their opening clash, before a 2-0 home win against Shrewsbury Town last month.
Tonight’s fixture will be the first meeting between the sides since their League Two match up back in 2005, where the Lincolnshire outfit ran out 4-0 winners. The Iron lead the head-to-head records by 14 wins to 11.
Tickets for the match are available online, in-store and by calling 012223 556 500. Tickets will be on sale from the ticket office during the run up to kick off at 7:45pm.
