DERRY WANTS U’S TO MAINTAIN HIGH PERFORMANCE LEVELS

INTERVIEW: SHAUN DERRY

Ahead of another tough Sky Bet League Two tussle at the Abbey Stadium against Yeovil Town tomorrow afternoon (K.O. 3;00pm), Manager Shaun Derry rallies up the U’s and Amber Army.

United face a Glovers outfit who are riding the crest of a wave with four consecutive 1-0 wins, and the Cambridge United chief is keen for the U’s to produce the correct performance levels that could spark a similar run.

He said: “We proved with our five wins out of six a few months ago that back-to-back results can take you up the League quickly and Yeovil have done the same recently.

“The progress in the last four months has been great and our aim first and foremost is to continue that, but if we are to make the play-offs at the end of this season, then we’re going to have to put the results together.

“Our levels of performance need to be high enough to give us that chance. That begins this weekend against Yeovil at the Abbey Stadium and we’ll need all the support we can get against a very difficult opponent.”

As well as the exciting Sky Bet League Two action taking place on the field, Saturday’s match will also see the club celebrate the work being delivered across the area by the Community Trust, with the game highlighting anti-discrimination campaign Kick It Out.

Derry is delighted that those in attendance will receive a flavour of what makes Cambridge United so unique, and the U’s boss added: “The work of the Community Trust and the Kick it Out campaign are as important to Cambridge United as success on the pitch.

“Of course you want three points and the team striving to be as high as possible on a Saturday afternoon, but away from that glare of the 95 minutes is what goes on behind the scenes and in the community throughout the week, which is the lifeblood of this football club.

“We have to continue engaging with the community because this is a family football club and it is so important. There is always more to do.”
