CAMBRIDGE UNITED CONFIRM DETAILS FOR PRE-SEASON TOUR FIXTURES IN GERMANY

Cambridge United are delighted to confirm they will play German sides KFC Uerdingen 05 and SG Wattenscheid 09 as part of the U’s pre-season tour in July.

In addition to the U’s week-long training camp in Eindhoven, Holland, Shaun Derry’s side will make the short trip over the border to take on the fourth and fifth tier sides, as their preparations for the upcoming Sky Bet League Two season continue.

Firstly, United will travel to the 34,500 capacity Grotenburg-Stadion to face one time Bundesliga outfit KFC Uerdingen 05 on Wednesday 13th July (Kick off 6:30pm), who finished 2nd in Oberliga Niederrhein Division last season.

A clash with SG Wattenscheid 09 on Saturday 16th July (Kick off 3pm) will then follow, who finished 8th in the German fourth tier during their 2015/16 campaign.

The tour has been formulated by Cambridge United’s official Travel Partner Absolute Sports Travel, and Manager Director Ashley Gowing commented: “"We are delighted to be helping Shaun and the team as they head across to Europe and wish them all the very best with their preparations for the new season in Holland and Germany.”

Meanwhile discussing the tour U’s CEO Jez George added: “It's something we've done every year with the youth team and the purpose of it is just to have a concentrated amount of time with the coaching staff and the players to embed the fitness work, but mostly the tactical and technical work for the start of the season.

"The amount of work that can be done with all the players together like this is much greater than if we just had a normal situation where we were working here.

"This tour is something that Shaun and the coaching were all extremely keen to do as it greatly benefits the spirit within the squad and helping new players to settle in quickly.

“The games will provide an ideal test against two opposition who are comparable to the levels we will face in League Two next season. We would like to thank Ash and Absolute Sport Travel for their service in helping with the organisation of this tour."
