U’S SIGN LEFT BACK BLAIR ADAMS

CAMBRIDGE UNITED COMPLETE SIGNING OF BLAIR ADAMS

Cambridge United have today completed the signing of left back Blair Adams on a one-year contract.

The 24-year old heads to the Cambs Glass Stadium from Notts County, and will once again work under the stewardship of Manager Shaun Derry having previously played for the U’s boss during his time at Meadow Lane.

South Shields born Adams, came through the youth ranks at Sunderland before cutting his teeth in the English Football League during loan spells with Brentford, Northampton Town and Coventry City, where he amassed 23 League One appearances and 22 games in League Two.

His form for the Sky Blues earned him a permanent move to the Ricoh Arena ahead of the 2013/14 season, where he played a further 43 times. However, a switch to the Magpies and Nottingham followed a season later, becoming a regular in the side under Shaun Derry.

Adams spent three months on loan with Mansfield Town last season and featured against the U’s in a 1-1 draw in December.

Delighted to now be given the opportunity to run out for the U’s, the defender commented: “I’ve had the opportunity to meet the players, the staff and have enjoyed my time already, and I’m really pleased to get the deal done.

“Every season I have built my portfolio and my experience. I had a good spell on loan at Mansfield and I want to take that into this season. It’s a new club and a new start, but obviously I’ve worked for the Manager before so we know how each other operates.

“I played my best football to date under Shaun at Notts County, so I can’t wait to see what the season brings.”

He added: “This is the time of year where you have to work hard, and I’ll be looking to earn a place in the side and settle myself into the back four. I feel I can improve the side but when you move to any new team, you have to prove yourself to the players, staff and the supporters, which is what I will be aiming to do.

“The fans have always made it a difficult place to come as a visiting player, so now I’m very much looking forward to playing in front of them and having a successful time here.”

Meanwhile, Jeff Hughes has left the club to join Tranmere Rovers. The midfielder spent the second half of the 2015/16 campaign with the National League outfit and now switches to Prenton Park on a permanent deal.
