POST-CARLISLE: SHAUN DERRY
Cambridge United Manager Shaun Derry asking for further improvements in the U’s performance following a point against Carlisle United at the Cambs Glass Stadium.
Assessing the 2-2 draw with the Cumbrians post-match, the U’s boss said: “The positives are that we gained a point against a strong Carlisle United side and we are unbeaten at home for this season.
“There are of course also clear improvements that have to be made because we expect far better performance levels from ourselves. Having taken the lead twice in the match, we would certainly have liked to have gone on to win and taken all three points.
“There is a collective disappointment within the changing room with the start, but it’s been a tough opening four games of the season and we will continue to follow the process that has been in place for the last nine months which brought us success during the second half of last season.”
He continued: “We do need to produce a performance to our maximum potential. But we are still in the early stages of the season and there is a confidence that we can achieve that.
“Nothing is won or lost in August, and we have a group of players who are building their relationships. We need that to happen out there on the field, which is where we need the talking to take place.
“We’ll enjoy the reward of a good display against Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night away to Wolves, and it’s a match we certainly want to win to give us the chance to build some momentum as we head back into League action next weekend.”
