MATCH PREVIEW: WOLVES AWAY

MATCH PREVIEW: WOLVES AWAY

Cambridge United travel to Molineux this evening to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Second Round of the EFL Cup.

Following a dramatic win over Sheffield Wednesday two weeks ago, with Piero Mingoia and Luke Berry registering memorable goals at the Cambs Glass Stadium, Shaun Derry’s men have been rewarded with a clash against another Championship opponent.

Many U’s fans will remember the last tussle between the sides, when United travelled to the West Midlands in 2008 in the FA Cup, falling to a 2-1 defeat after taking the lead through Scott Rendell.

Meanwhile Walter Zenga’s side currently sit third in the Championship table, and are so far unbeaten this season with two wins over Birmingham City and Reading to their name, as well as draws with Ipswich and Rotherham.

Wolves progressed into this evening’s tie with a 2-1 home win over Crawley Town two weeks ago.

Striker Joe Mason has been the West Midland’s sides star of the show in their opening encounters having bagged three goals, whilst Icelandic forward Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has two to his name, following his move to Molineux this summer after reaching the quarter finals Euro 2016 with his national side.

Tonight’s teams have met on 14 occasions, with the U’s leading the head-to-head record by seven wins to four.

Tickets are available on the gate at Molineux Stadium for supporters looking to travel over this evening.
