YOUTH TEAM GAME WITH NORTHAMPTON TOWN ABANDONED

YOUTH TEAM: Cambridge United 0 Northampton Town 2 (Abandoned 67mins due to serious injury)

A serious injury to Northampton Town's Jarvis Wilson brought this Youth Alliance fixture to an early end. Wilson, suffered a break to his right leg whilst United’s Leon Davies was also taken to hospital with a suspected pelvic injury.

Academy Manager Mark Bonner said: “Football pales into insignificance when serious injuries occur. No one was to blame, it was just a coming together and Jarvis has come out of it badly. The reaction of the boy himself and the other players showed the seriousness and our own Leon Davies was down at the time also.

“It is a rare occurrence that we have to phone an ambulance, but to have two ambulances on the pitch was incredible and it was the right decision to abandon the game given the seriousness of the situation. The distress that it caused the players on the pitch also was not a healthy environment to continue. The medical staff from both clubs performed exceptionally well and the emergency action plan at our end was executed brilliantly.

“Leon had us all a little frightened for a while, but he walked out of Addenbrookes’ Hospital on Saturday evening and will be fine. Jarvis requires an operation and will be out of action for a significant period. It goes without saying that we wish Jarvis all the very best and hope that he makes a full recovery over what will be a challenging few months for him. However, he is surrounded by good people at a good club and with supportive teammates as showed on Saturday. We will support him as best we can also.”

Everyone at Cambridge United would like to offer Jarvis their very best wishes in his recovery.
