HONEST DERRY LOOKING FOR QUICK RESPONSE AGAINST DONCASTER ROVERS

Cambridge United Manager Shaun Derry was extremely honest about a tough afternoon against Colchester United on Saturday and wants the U’s to make a quick response on Tuesday night at Doncaster.

The U’s fell to a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the Weston Holmes Community Stadium, with the United boss admitting his side produced a below par performance. However, following an frank post-match assessment Derry looked ahead to the clash in South Yorkshire as a chance to remedy the weekend’s display.

He said: “It was a very tough afternoon and we certainly didn’t want to produce a performance like we did, especially after such a fantastic Tuesday night against Sheffield Wednesday.

“We won’t make any excuses, it wasn’t good enough. It’s a performance that you hope you only see once in a blue moon, and we have to make sure we make improvements instantly.

“We have made our thoughts very clear and we’re now optimistic we won’t see a game like that again. Football is great in that you have many opportunities to improve with the next fixture.”

He continued: “It’s important that we learn from days like Saturday to progress, because you must take advantage of all your experiences to keep moving forward.

“The game moves on incredibly quickly and it’s great that we have the chance to play on the front foot on Tuesday night against Doncaster to rectify our performance at Colchester.

“We have to make sure we are the Cambridge United that we expect and the one that everyone has seen for the last nine months.”
