Abbey Stadium, Kick off 3pm
Cambridge United return to Sky Bet League Two action at the Abbey Stadium tomorrow, with local rivals Stevenage FC the U’s latest opponents. (KO 3PM)
United will be looking to build on their good recent run, following consecutive draws against League leaders Leyton Orient and Hartlepool United last weekend. Both games produced valuable points for Richard Money’s side, and the U’s will be aiming to continue their unbeaten streak with a return to winning ways this weekend.
United are likely to be without defender Josh Coulson who is struggling with a calf strain, whilst Barry Corr, Keith Keane, Ryan Donaldson and Jeff Hughes all have an outside chance of being involved, although Saturday’s game may fall slightly too early in their respective recoveries.
The visitors Stevenage have not won in two games and are looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss away at Barnet last time out. Teddy Sheringham’s side have started the season in an inconsistent manner and will hope this weekend’s fixture can provide an opportunity to kick start their season.
The Hertfordshire outfit are unbeaten against the U’s in the last four encounters, in a run that stretches back to United’s Conference Play-off semi-final triumph in 2009. The overall record between the sides is also marginally in Stevenage’s favour, having won eight times to the U’s five.
Therefore a win this weekend would not only see the U’s clinch a precious three points but also help to redress the balance between the two clubs.
United Manager Richard Money is wary of what tomorrow’s visitors will be capable of, but targets the next three fixtures as a chance to climb the League Two ladder.
He said: “Having watched Stevenage, like us they are showing good signs. They still have a strong nucleus of players from last season and on their day they can be as good as anyone else in the division and so can we.
“It’s another challenge which means we should all be looking forward to it. Local rivalries are often very tight so there will be a good atmosphere.
“I’m sure both teams will go into the game feeling that they need to win so it should a good day.
He added: “We have three games in the space of the next week. I always look at that as an opportunity, with nine points to play for.
“Depending on how many we can get, you have the chance to move very quickly up the table.
“We’ll be aiming for a good week’s football and a strong level of performance that goes from game to game.”
