Pre-match Preview - Richard Money
Cambridge United make the long trip to St James’ Park this evening, for a clash with Exeter City in Sky Bet League Two (KO 7.45pm).
The U’s will be looking to build further momentum after an impressive display against local rivals Northampton Town four days ago, that saw Richard Money’s side claim at 2-1 win at the Abbey Stadium.
Striker Barry Corr registered his seventh goal of the season against the Cobblers and will be keen to add to his tally at St James’ Park this evening, whilst U’s midfielder Harrison Dunk continued his fine early season form with an outstanding solo goal to show for his high quality performance.
United are still burdened with a long injury list that includes the likes of Keith Keane, Leon Legge and Josh Coulson, whilst captain Mark Roberts is also unavailable for the fixture through suspension.
The travelling Amber Army will be hopeful the U’s can clinch a little more than the point they secured in last year’s corresponding fixture, that saw the Grecians come from two goals down level it late after Robbie Simpson and an own goal had given United the advantage.
Exeter come into the fixture on the back of their longest away fixture of the season to Carlisle United, which ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat. Paul Tisdale’s men will prove dangerous to United as they go in search of their first win in five matches, with the last victory coming against Portsmouth at Fratton Park last month.
The U’s hold a comfortable advantage in the head to head record between the two sides, with 24 wins to City’s 15.
Looking ahead to the fixture, Manager Richard Money explained his admiration for this evening’s opponents and gives an update on the current squad situation.
“The manager [Paul Tisdale] has been there a long time, they have got a good philosophy and play attractive football. Looking at their last two or three games, Paul will be thinking I’m sure that they are playing well enough to win.
“It will be a good football game and they are good people so that makes the trip a lot more enjoyable.
He added: “Everybody who played the game against Northampton came through okay, and we’ll take Danny Carr and Matt Lowe with us to make up the 20.
“The remainder of the squad continue with their rehab and hopefully they will be a week closer when we return.
“Saturday was an important win, because Monday morning in training is always a much brighter place to be when the team have secured three points in the bag. The players were in good spirits earlier in the week but they know they have got a tough task coming up.”
