United continue winning start to the season
Cambridge United Futsal hosted Coventry Futsal Club in their second fixture of the FA National League, and secured a 20-2 win that ensures they returned to the top of the division.
The U’s played out the perfect game plan against their opponents at the Cambridge University Sports Centre, to complete an 18 goal rout on Sunday afternoon.
Three minutes into the first half Luke Chadwick found the back of the net following good initial work from captain Morcillo. Cambridge continued to mount the pressure and were punishing Coventry who found themselves on the wrong end of a six goal deficit in quick fire time.
Coventry grabbed a goal back after a powerful shot from 10 yards found the bottom corner of Lima's goal, before they pegged the U’s back once more minutes later.
However, Mendonca’s men responded quickly adding another to their tally to complete a 7-2 half time score line, similar to the one the U’s had secured three weeks earlier against Bath.
Keen to not to show complacency, Cambridge produced a festival of goals to punish the visitors and raced away during the opening stages of the second half with Mendes, Bouttell and Martinez all on the score sheet.
United continued to press Coventry high up the court which ensured their opponents struggled to build any momentum, and allowed the U’s to find the net as regularly as they had earlier in the clash.
Midway through the second half Coventry were struggling to get on the front foot and Cambridge United kept pressing them high up the court, which allowed other players to get on the score sheet.
In the end, the U’s were well worthy of their 20-2 winning result which ensured that the increasing number of spectators left more than satisfied as the U’s sit top of the pile in the FA National Futsal League Midlands Division two. Next up, a trip to Kettering in three weeks’ time.
