U18s REPORT: DAG & RED 3 UNITED 4

U's complete exciting comeback against Daggers

Cambridge United's Under 18s travelled to Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday afternoon in Football League Youth Alliance action and produced an excellent 4-3 comeback win.

With the FA Youth Cup second round clash against Stevenage at the Abbey Stadium looming on Wednesday, the U's were eager to put on a convincing display to build momentum going in to the fixture.

Despite eventually winning the match, the U's had given themselves a mountain to climb at half time, when despite dominating possession for long periods of the first 45 minutes, they gifted the Daggers two goals through poor defending.

United responded quickly after the interval and following a bright start, Tom Knowles slid a ball across for Matt Foy to place a finish into the top corner.

However, the U's defensive frailties struck once again from the resulting kick off, as a lack of concentration allowed the opposition forward to score neatly from the edge of the area and restore the Daggers' two goal advantage.

This sparked the U's into life with the side showing a high level of desire and commitment to grind out a winning result from the game.

Goals from Harry Darling and Tom Knowles in quick succession levelled the scores for United, before a fantastic solo effort by Josh Emmins who cut in from the left side and beating the Dagenham keeper with a right footed strike from distance saw Cambridge complete the fightback.

Team: Macree, Davies, Shaw, Darling, Burniston (45 - Bell), Emmins, Chambers-Shaw, D. Williams, Foy (70 - Worman), Leavers (60 - Brown), Knowles
