DONALDSON LOOKING FORWARD TO “INTENSE” WEEK

PLAYER INTERVIEW: RYAN DONALDSON

Cambridge United midfielder Ryan Donaldson says the U’s are looking forward to an intense first full week on the training ground under new Manager Shaun Derry.

Following Saturday’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Oxford United at the Kassam Stadium, despite a battling performance from the men in Amber and Black, Donaldson feels everyone will be vowing to impress Derry who was appointed late last week.

“I’m sure this week will be a good, intense week with it being the first full week under the new manager,” he said.

“A lot people will be aiming to impress him and for a place in the team for next Saturday against Accrington.

“It will be difficult but we’re all looking forward to it.”

Reflecting on Saturday’s performance and the tremendous travelling support of the Amber Army, the 24-year old added: “It was a hard game and Oxford are a very good team. They managed to get the all-important goal which we just couldn’t get back.

“We tried to take the game to them and in the first 30 minutes and last 10 we gave them a good game.

“At the start of the second half they put us under a lot of pressure which put us on the back foot. But we had to stick through that to stay in the game and keep it at 1-0. You will always get a chance and we built a lot of pressure of our own at the end of the game.

“It was disappointing but we took one of the best teams in the League right to the very end of the game, which is a start.”

“The fans have been brilliant all year and we want to give them performances they can return home smiling about.”
