Cambridge United welcome in-form Accrington Stanley to the Abbey Stadium on Saturday afternoon (KO 3:00pm), for what will be new manager Shaun Derry’s first home game in charge of the U’s.
United return to the Abbey after a spirited performance away at the Kassam Stadium against high-flying Oxford United last weekend, which ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat.
New loan signings Ryan Ledson, Terry Kennedy and Ben Williamson will be looking for their first involvements involved for the U’s, after arriving at the club late this week.
Shaun Derry’s men will continue to be without Keith Keane who is continuing his rehabilitation from a groin injury. The U’s boss hopes to have Elliot Omozusi back from a hamstring strain while, Harrison Dunk could require a fitness test after only being involved in light training yesterday.
As the Sky Bet League Two table suggests, the visitors to the Abbey Stadium have enjoyed a positive start to the 2015/16 campaign sat in fifth position.
Unbeaten in their last four games, Accrington will certainly prove to be a real handful for the U’s, having already secured results against Bristol Rovers, Portsmouth and Leyton Orient on the road this season.
Armoured with the likes of Josh Windass, Matt Crooks and Billy Kee, who have collectively found the back of the net on 22 occasions this season, the U’s will need to keep a watchful eye on their opponents this afternoon if they are to end the fixture the victors.
Shaun Derry has praised the progress of John Coleman and his side this season and said: “John Coleman and his staff have done remarkably well and I expect a real tough fixture.
“They have changed the outlook of Accrington Stanley, because some people may wrongly look at them as a small football club. However, they are absolute giants in terms of team spirit and the way they turn results over on the football pitch.”
Derry is confident of finding a system to quell Stanley’s danger men and added: “It will be difficult but having faced them as Notts County Manager I understand what type of system or formation they may play and the good players that they have at their disposal.”
