Cambridge U18s make Christmas Visit to Bramley Court Care Home
Cambridge United’s U18s Scholars celebrated the festive season in style alongside residents of Bramley Court Care Home.
The scholars were invited to attend a very special Christmas party alongside the residents at the Histon-based Care home, which specialises in residential, nursing and dementia services for the elderly.
Entertainment included carol singing from the U’s and even a spot of dancing, as the evening provided all with plenty of Christmas cheer and allowed the Scholars the chance to interact face-to-face with the residents.
Commenting on the evening, Cambridge United’s Josh Burniston felt that both parties benefitted from the visit and that events like the Christmas party continue to play a role in his development as a second year scholar at the club.
He said: “It was a really good visit because it took us scholars out of our comfort zone by singing and dancing, as well as making sure that all the people in the home enjoyed themselves. To see the joy that they all had from us visiting was great.
“From doing visits to places like Bramley Court, we gain confidence. Being a second year scholar now, when I did the same visit in my first year I didn’t have the confidence to say a lot, but now I feel like I have gained that belief to join in with events like that.
“The main aim was to make sure that all the people at the care home had a really good time, and when you get involved with them it makes their Christmas.
“I think it’s important to get involved with the community, because some people may have a perception of young footballers and we want to show them what we are really like. I think it shows what Cambridge United’s scholars are like and how the football club are trying to produce players as well.”
Meanwhile first year scholar Josh Emmins, making his first Christmas visit to Bramley Court, added: “It was nice to lend a helping hand by supporting the people in the care home to make sure they enjoy Christmas. We have been there a few times now and I’ve really enjoyed it.
“I think because we play football, although it is youth team and not the first team, some people may still look up to us, so we want to do things to help the community of Cambridge. Doing visits to places like Bramley Court is good in that sense.
“We also go to Jimmy’s Shelter for the homeless, and it’s nice to be able to put a smile on the faces of the people there too.”
