MATCH PREVIEW: CARLISLE UNITED VS CAMBRIDGE UNITED

Preview the U’s trip to Brunton Park

Cambridge United make the lengthy trip to Brunton Park to face Carlisle United this weekend, in the second fixture of the 2015/16 Football League season.

An exciting start to the campaign saw Richard Money’s men overcome Newport County 3-0 at the Abbey Stadium last weekend, with Barry Corr claiming his first competitive goals for the club and Robbie Simpson registering his first of the season in front of the Newmarket Road End.

Despite a midweek cup exit at the hands of Rotherham United, the U’s continued to play with purpose and belief that will have done their confidence no harm heading into Saturday’s first away League fixture of 2015/16.

A 5-0 home win in August 2014 and a solitary goal from Liam Hughes ensured that the U’s twice got the better of Carlisle last season, with the travelling Amber Army hoping for much of the same this time round.

After just one game, United sit top of the pile in Sky Bet League Two whilst the Cumbrians opening day point against Mansfield Town sees them in 11th position.

Like the U’s, Carlisle have recruited well during the summer under the guidance of former England international Keith Curle and Cambridge United boss Richard Money expects a tough encounter.

“It will be a good game of football,” he said.

“Carlisle have recruited a good group and their results in pre-season were impressive, as well as of course a draw with Mansfield on the opening day and a great win against Chesterfield in the week.

“Our system is such that we are trying to dominate the ball and they likewise are trying to dominate the ball, so it will be an interesting tussle for sure.

“It is the sort of game that both teams will look forward to and we’ll see who comes out on top.”

Meanwhile discussing his options for selection, Money added: “Leon [Legge] has got gastroenteritis and did well to get through last Saturday.

“He will be dehydrated when he comes back and Chris Dunn has picked up the same bug, so along with the bumps and bruises that you usually get during the early part of the season, that makes life a bit more difficult.

“The trip to Carlisle is always a tough ordeal not only in terms of the travel but the actual management of the group as well.

“But we have a good group of players who have a great mentality and will get their heads down and work.”
