LEAGUE TWO - WEEKEND ROUND UP

League Two - Results Round Up

BURTON Albion returned to the top of League 2 after getting back to winning ways at home to Cheltenham, with forward, Stuart Beavon notching the decisive goal. Albion were only able to rise back to the summit due to Bury suffering their first loss since the opening day of the season on their long trip South to Exeter. Matt Grimes' curling free-kick gave Exeter the early advantage before Tom Soares brought Bury level after the break. However, Exeter made it three straight wins when late on , Jimmy Keohane, finished neatly from close range.

Paul Hayes scored the 100th league goal of his career to give Wycombe a slender victory over Cambridge, which sees Wanderers rise to second.

Keith Curle managed to inspire bottom of the table Carlisle United to a first win of the season at home to Tranmere, with David Amoo heading in the only goal.

Newport County romped to an impressive 4-1 triumph against AFC Wimbledon. Ismail Yakubu placed the hosts ahead before a brace from on-loan Joe Pigott saw them assert themselves firmly in control.  Adebayo Akinfenwa headed one back for Don's, but Aaron O'Connor wrapped up the win with a great strike from the edge of the box.

Oxford United dropped into the relegation places after losing 2-0 against newly promoted Luton Town at Kenilworth Road. Luton took the lead through Luke Wilkinson, before Jake Howell’s goal put the game to bed after sixty-seven minutes. The hosts are now four unbeaten, and only out of the play-off places on goal difference.

Hartlepool United’s goalless draw with Portsmouth at Victoria Park was enough to lift Pool’s out of the relegation places.

Accrington continued their 100% start under new manager John Coleman and claimed their fourth win in five matches by beating Plymouth 1-0, with Kai Naismith scoring the game’s conclusive goal.

Ivan Toney’s third league goal of the season was enough to secure a narrow Northampton win against Morecambe at the Globe Arena, taking the Cobblers up to fifth.

Chris Whelpdale scored a brace against Mansfield as Stevenage earned a second consecutive home win, with Charlie Lee scoring the game’s other goal for the Boro.

Shaq Coulthirst found the net as Southend recorded their fourth successive League Two victory with a narrow win over 10-man Shrewsbury.
