SOHAM VC GIRLS U13 VICTORIOUS!

Soham U13 Girls win Kinder+Sport Cup

SOHAM Village College emerged victorious from the Girls U13 Inter-school tournament run by Cambridge United Community Trust on Monday, from a strong field of 12 teams representing 8 schools.

Comberton VC, Cromwell CC, Hinchingbrooke School, Melbourn VC, Sawtry CC, St Ivo School and Swavesey VC all also entered teams, meaning over 90 girls took part in the 6-a-side competition.

After progressing through the group stages and quarter-finals, the semi-finals were contested by teams from Soham, Sawtry, Comberton and St Ivo. Both games went to penalties, showing how closely-matched the teams were, before Soham and St Ivo met in the final. In another tight affair, Soham got the vital goal, winning 1-0 to claim overall victory.

Sam Edwards, teacher at Soham, said: “The girls played the best football I have ever seen them play and will now go onto represent Cambridge United to pursue the dream of playing at Wembley.”

U's Community Development Manager Amy Ganderton added: “It was fantastic to see so many girls playing to such a high standard. Congratulations to Soham Village College and thanks to Comberton Village College for hosting the event.”

Each Football League team will send a representative to the regional finals, with the ultimate final being played prior to the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final at Wembley. We will keep you informed of Soham Village College’s progress.
