Cambridge United are pleased to announce the signing of Shayne Lavery on a two-year deal...
The striker joins the U’s following three years at Blackpool, becoming Garry Monk’s third new signing of the summer.
After an impressive youth career in his native Northen Ireland, Lavery joined Everton as a 16-year-old in 2015 and signed his first professional contract three years later.
He moved back home in 2019 to join Linfield, where he enjoyed a successful two-year spell, helping the team win back-to-back league titles.
He also became the first player to win both the Northern Ireland Football Writers' Association Player of the Year and Ulster Footballer of the Year awards, after an outstanding 2021 season.
His performances earned him a move to Blackpool, where he made 106 appearances, scoring 18 times.
A Northern Ireland international, Lavery has represented his country on 19 occasions.
“I am really happy”, Lavery said. “There has been a lot of interest from Cambridge this summer so it’s fantastic to get everything sorted and get it over the line.
“I am excited to see what the season will bring – I have been really impressed by the manager so far, so I can’t wait to get working with him and meet the rest of the lads.”
Garry Monk added, “Shayne is a player we targeted early on this summer so it’s brilliant to be able to welcome him to the Club.
“As a striker he has clear attributes that will help to create and score goals, along with huge endeavour to work hard for the team. He is a fantastic character that will fit well into our Club."
