Cambridge United won their second pre-season game in as many days with a 3-1 success over Ebbsfleet United...
After initially falling behind in the 13th minute, an own goal for the hosts just before the break levelled matters going into the second half.
It was then the Sullay Kaikai show in the second half, as two goals from the United attacker within the space of 10 minutes secured the win for Garry Monk's men.
Following yesterday’s win at Braintree, it was all change with the starting XI as Reyes, Bennett, Watts, Brophy, Kachunga, Kaikai, Ibsen Rossi, Lavery, Cousins, Ewens-Findlay and Munday began the game.
The U’s made a strong start to the match, enjoying the majority of possession in the opponents third and creating some promising early chances. The best of which came from young talent George Munday, who latched onto the end of Mark Cousins’ parry, but his shot came crashing off the woodwork.
Moments later, an Ebbsfleet counter-attack caught the U’s off guard, as Ebbsfleet’s Dominic Samuel raced through on goal before smashing the ball into the bottom corner to give the hosts the opener.
United looked to find a quick response after the setback, James Brophy coming closest to an equaliser with a shot from distance that forced the Fleet stopper to leap into action to tip the effort past the post.
It wasn’t until late in the first half that the U’s were rewarded for their efforts though - Brophy’s deflected shot at the far post deflecting off an Ebbsfleet defender and into the back of the net.
United started the second half in the same fashion as they ended the first, executing the high press and looking to break down the Ebbsfleet back line.
The U’s stepped up the pressure after a few close chances, and their hard work paid off as Sullay Kaikai showed quick feet to dance past the opposition defence before slotting home to put United ahead.
Vicente Reyes heroics were called upon in the 70th minute, as Poleon danced his way into the middle of the box before the U’s keeper made himself big, to keep United’s lead intact.
Shortly after, Kaikai once again proved dangerous as he ran behind the Ebbsfleet defence and finished clinically to increase the U’s lead to three.
Second half changes saw the introduction of Jehrell McKoy and Ebanks-Blake, who added energy to the team and although the home side threw everything at it in the closing moments, Garry Monk's men were in full control as they cruised to another pre-season victory.
