Cambridge United are pleased to announce the signing of Connor O’Riordan on a season-long loan…
The 20-year-old centre-back arrives at the Cledara Abbey Stadium on loan from Blackburn Rovers.
O’Riordan came up through the Crewe Alexandra Academy, signing a scholarship in 2020 before penning his first professional deal in June 2022.
Following an impressive loan at Raith Rovers and a strong first half to the 2023/24 season with the Railwaymen, the Championship came calling and Blackburn Rovers signed the defender in January for an undisclosed fee on a four-and-a-half-year deal.
He now joins United as Garry Monk’s ninth signing of the summer window.
“I am really excited to be here,” O’Riordan said. “I just want to help the Club as much as I can and help myself personally by playing as many games as I can.
“The way the gaffer wants to play football will suit my strengths and we both thought it would be a good fit. I have had a full pre-season so I am ready to go whenever I am needed - I am just excited to get going now.”
Garry Monk added, “Connor is a very talented young defender and we are really happy to have secured his services.
“He adds another dimension to our defensive options and will provide fantastic competition to the squad. I am looking forward to working with him this season and seeing him make an impact on the team.”
O’Riordan will wear number 29.
