Cambridge United are pleased to announce the signing of Korey Smith on a two-year deal…
The 33-year-old midfielder arrives after helping Derby to promotion last season, where he made 37 appearances for the Rams.
After starting his career out at Norwich City, before a move to Oldham Athletic, Smith made his name at Bristol City, where he spent six seasons between 2014-2020.
His most memorable moment with the Robins came in the 2017 EFL Cup Quarter Finals, as his last-minute goal secured a famous 2-1 win.
Two years at Swansea and then two years at Derby followed, and he now joins up with his new teammates in Portugal for the rest of the team’s overseas training camp.
“It all happened quite quick overnight – it got sorted at around 11pm last night and at 5am I was at the airport!” Smith said.
“When I went down to the training ground last week I had a really good chat with the Manager. He told me the Club’s ideas and plans for the future, where they saw me in that, and I felt a good connection.”
Garry Monk added, “Korey is another signing of real pedigree, having spent the vast majority of his career playing in the Championship or fighting for promotion out of League One.
“He will add quality, experience and a winner’s mentality to the team, so I am delighted to welcome him to the Club.”
