Cambridge United are pleased to announce the loan signing of Josh Stokes, subject to EFL and FA approval...
The 20-year-old attacker joins on a one-year deal from Bristol City, becoming Garry Monk’s 10th signing of the summer transfer window.
Originally a product of the Ipswich Town Academy, Stokes signed with AFC Sudbury as a 17-year-old and soon became a key member of the First Team.
After two years with the Suds, Stokes move to Aldershot in the National League ahead of the start of the 2023/24 season.
Stokes was prolific in his first few months at the Club, scoring 16 goals from 31 games, which caught the attention of Championship side, Bristol City. The Robins signed Stokes on a three-and-a-half year deal in January 2024, before loaning him back out to the Shots.
He now joins United until the end of the 2024/25 season.
“I am really excited for this opportunity,” Stokes said. “I want to try and make my mark on the team and have a really good season both for myself and the Club.
“It’s been a whirlwind few years for me but this is a great chance for me to show what I can do in the EFL. My chats with the Manager have all been really positive and I can’t wait to get going.”
Garry Monk added, “Josh is a great young player who has worked extremely hard to progress through the leagues in such a short space of time. To do so takes not only talent, but an outstanding attitude and mindset.
“We believe he has high potential and will be a big contributor to the squad this season. I am delighted to welcome him to the Club.”
Stokes met with his new teammates and took part in full training with the squad on Wednesday morning, ahead of Saturday's home game against Blackpool. He will wear squad number 22.
