Esteemed football journalist, Henry Winter is the guest for our third Footnotes Seminar, taking place at the Cledara Abbey Stadium...
In a joint-project between the University of Cambridge and Cambridge United FC, Footnotes: The Writing of Football seminar series, will bring four speakers to the city in the first months of 2025 to explore, examine and dissect the writing behind the beautiful game.
Spanning non-fiction, journalism and academic writing forms, each speaker will offer a unique perspective from their personal and professional experiences on how writing around football functions, and what it seeks to do in each specific space it finds itself in.
We have already had Adam Hurrey of Football Cliches and Professor Joseph Webster of the University of Cambridge, and joining us third time round is Henry Winter.
Henry is a journalist who has written on football for over 35 years, covering English football in forensic detail and documenting the drama from nine world cups.
Having previously served as football reported at the Independent and chief football writer at the Times, Henry now writes for World Soccer and maintains a very active substack.
He has been voted SJA Specialist Correspondent of the Year four times and Football Writer of the Year once, and has interviewed football personalities spanning eras from Pelé to Jurgen Klopp.
As well as ghost writing books alongside Kenny Dalglish, John Barnes and Steven Gerrard, Henry recently exclusively broke news of Marcus Rashford's decision to leave Manchester United after twenty years at the club.
Henry joins us to consider football writing as it relates to footballers, and what role it can/does serve in spreading their message.
The event takes place on Wednesday 26 March (6pm) in the A2B Taxicabs Suite at the Cledara Abbey Stadium. Tickets are free and can be bought by clicking here. Please note, the event is expected to sell out quickly.
