After joining on loan in January 2024, Gibbons make 13 appearances over the final few months of the season, impressing supporters with his high-energy and committed performances.
He has now made the move permanent by a signing a two-year contract with the U’s on the eve of the team returning for pre-season training.
“I am buzzing to be back,” Gibbons said. “I really enjoyed my football here and really liked working under the gaffer, so it was an easy decision to make the move.
“I was made to feel right at home by everyone at the Club, including the supporters, who were unbelievable to me.
“We really want to kick on this season so I am excited to get going again and meet back up with the lads.”
Garry Monk added, “James was a consistent performer in his time with us last season.
"He adds great experience & versatility to the team, as well as tremendous leadership skills as an example to others in the group - I am very happy that he is back with us”
