Foundation Matchday on Saturday

Foundation participants on the pitch

This Saturday’s home game against Northampton Town is the Club’s annual Foundation Matchday as we celebrate the work and achievements of our official charity…

Cambridge is officially the UK’s most unequal city and with the Abbey and Kings Hedges wards being amongst the 20% most deprived areas in the UK, the football club has a responsibility to tackle this inequality.

Cambridge United Foundation engages with over 12,000 people a year and delivered over 4,000 sessions to local schools supporting education, training and/or employment and 894 sessions focused on community engagement.

The 2023/24 impact report - which can be read by clicking here - features the following highlights:

  • 87% of junior participants were physically active, 45% above the Cambridgeshire average
  • Happiness was on average 20% higher amongst junior participants compared to the national average
  • 67% of CUF participants agreed or strongly agreed that they made positive changes to their life as a result of their activities with the Foundation
  • 74% of adult participants felt a strong or very strong sense of belonging to their local neighbourhood – 20% above the national average

Supporters are encouraged to show their support for the Foundation by bringing a pound to the ground and donating to their bucket collection on Saturday. Proceeds from the afternoon’s 50/50 draw will also go to Cambridge United Foundation.

Hundreds of participants have been invited to the game and will be watching the on-pitch action from the Mead Family Stand, whilst United’s first team players will wear Foundation t-shirts during their warm-ups.

This weekend’s Programme is dedicated to the Foundation and will include a number of stories and features on their outstanding work.

Young fans can look forward to enjoying a Mead Family Stand Treasure Hunt, with medals to be won and Astrazeneca, the Foundation's community sponsor, will be in the Kids' Zone ahead of kick-off, helping youngsters learn more about science in a fun manner!

Finally, Potton Primary School, our representatives at the EFL’s Utilita Kids Cup, will entertain supporters at half-time with a kick-around on the pitch.
