Liam Bennett and Glenn McConnell have been named official Her Game Too Player Advocates...

The United pair volunteered for the role, which will see them play a critical part in championing and supporting the Her Game Too message within the Football Club.

Liam Bennett said, "Throughout my footballing journey I have grown up with females playing and working within the game we all love, and have seen and listened to many of the challenges and issues they have faced.

"A big reason why I decided to become a Her Game Too Advocate is to do my best in helping to support women to have a voice that is heard, to enable us to break down barriers and inspire others by creating a community where everyone feels valued and empowered."

Glenn McConnell added, “I decided to be a Her Game Too Advocate as there are many women around me who have wanted to pursue sports and push onto the next stage, but haven’t been able to do so. Whether that be due to lack of funding, a lack of clubs to attend or a variety of other reasons.

"I was lucky enough to be able to choose whichever sport I wanted to when I was younger, and ultimately chose football, which is a passion I share with millions of men and women around the world. This may not have been such a simple route for young girls in the same position.

"I have been lucky enough to connect with many women since being more involved in the First Team, such as CUWFC players, fans and staff, and it’s highlighted to me how much progress there is still to be made to help women and girls of all ages and backgrounds to help fulfil their dreams of being involved in football whether that be playing, working or as a fan."

Emma Smith, co-founder of female supporter group, Amber Belles, and the Club’s HGT Ambassador, said, “I’m thrilled that Liam Bennett and Glenn McConnell have joined my Her Game Too team at the Club as Player Advocates.

"To have young professional footballers advocating and supporting the campaign for equality in football is so important. Their voices – along with women’s team Advocates, Lauren Webb, Alysha Stojko-Down and Darren Marjoram – will help elevate the message that football is for all.”

Founded in May 2021, Her Game Too is a passionate movement dedicated to tackling sexism and promoting gender equality within the world of sport. Recognising the pervasive challenges faced by women and girls in sport, Her Game Too strives to create an inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of gender, can enjoy and participate in sports without fear of discrimination or harassment.

Their mission is to raise awareness of the issues women face in football, to celebrate female fans, players, and professionals, and to work alongside clubs, organisations, and governing bodies to foster a supportive and equitable atmosphere. Through powerful campaigns, community engagement, and educational initiatives, Her Game Too aims to inspire change and ensure football remains a game for all.
