U's Head Coach Neil Harris rued an ineffective display against Cheltenham Town which resulted in a first league loss of 2024...
Despite creating numerous golden opportunities during the match, United came undone against the Robins who found the all-important opening goal during the second half.
The United boss gave his verdict after the final whistle as his team's unbeaten run of four games came to an end.
- On a disappointing day...
"It's a poor result and a poor performance, but you look at the fact that we have had four one-on-ones and we have missed two absolute sitters in the six-yard box. Cheltenham, other than causing a bit of pressure by putting direct play into the box, Jack has hardly made a save.
"It happens in football and I am not happy about it and not condoning it whatsoever, the performance wasn't good enough, but it's one game. It's a disappointing one and probably the biggest kick in the proverbial since I have been here. We need to be better, that's for sure, but we did have unbelievable chances to win the game."
- On changing things up in the second half...
"I thought it might give us a bit more of a foothold and a chance to put an extra player behind the ball to build, and ultimately it gave us four players at the top end fo the pitch.
"When you do that, the idea is to build the play quickly but the lads weren't brave enough with the ball. Sometimes bravey is about taking the ball in a tight area and taking someone one-v-one, sometimes it's about making space and playing the ball forward quickly. The players have to make better decisions."
- On moving forward...
"Today is a real disappointment for us, but we have not had many of these over the past couple of months. We have to get over this and see a reaction from the group, see what they are made of and see how they respond on Tuesday.
"That falls on me as the leader of the group but we have a tough challenge on Tuesday and also a fantastic opportunity as well. We certainly have to bounce back."
