With the current season having come to a close, the Cambridge United Women’s Board have undertaken a review of the current structure of the Women’s section of the Club to further improve the pathway for developing players…
As a result of the review; Cambridge United Women will run two teams from next season - a First Team in the FA Women's National League (FAWNL) and an Under 18s side in the Junior Premier League (JPL) Warriors.
The current Development side will evolve to become an Under 18s team, allowing for a more coherent pathway from the current Emerging Talent Centre set-up to prepare players to be better equipped to step into the First Team.
Jenny Horsfield, Women’s Board Chair said, “We are really excited about this change in structure and believe it will be of huge benefit to the Club, particularly our younger players within the pathway.
"Our sincere thanks go to everybody involved with the Development Team over the years for their hard work and dedication. It has been a vital part of the Club but now is the right time to make a change and move in a different direction."
Women’s First Team Manager, Darren Marjoram added, “The creation of a new Under 18 team is an exciting step to link the Girls pathway to the Senior Team and will give young players from within and outside the current programmes an opportunity to play for Cambridge United, as they transition into Adult Football.
“I look forward to seeing the players develop and hopefully progress into the First Team.”
The Club will soon be advertising for roles within the new Under 18s set-up and will be holding open trials for players. Players can register their interest by clicking here.
