Cambridge United are delighted to announce the signing of Jack Stevens from Oxford United...
The 25-year-old goalkeeper joins on an initial free transfer but with Oxford United retaining a future interest in the player, who signs a two-year deal.
Stevens has been with Oxford for his entire professional career, signing pro for the first time as an 18-year-old in 2016.
After spending his first few seasons out on loan for local non-league sides, Stevens has risen up the ranks to make 92 League One appearances across the past three seasons.
“I am really excited. It’s good to get it over the line” Stevens said, “It’s a good time for me to settle somewhere, hopefully play regular football and be somewhere really positive.
“It feels like it fits and I am really happy to be here. I know the league really well and I am looking to show everyone how good of a goalkeeper I am.”
Mark Bonner added, “I am excited to make Jack our first signing of the window and I am really looking forward to seeing him work with Martin and the other goalkeepers. A strong goalkeeper union is always important in the team and I believe that Jack will be an excellent addition within that.
“He joins at a brilliant stage in his career. Having played a large number of games at League One level, he has great experience, but at an age where he has many years ahead of him and plenty of potential still to fulfil.
“Jack’s personality and hunger impressed me when we met, and having watched plenty of him and seen how highly thought of he has been, we are signing him at the right to time to provide him with the environment and opportunities to keep progressing.
“He’s quick around the goal and off his line, deals well with crosses, is a strong shot stopper and shows composure with the ball.”
Jack Stevens is the Club’s first new signing of the summer and he will wear the number one shirt next season.
