Cambridge United Football Club is pleased to inform supporters that the new Newmarket Road End (NRE) Fan Zone will open on Saturday for the Ipswich Town fixture...
Located at the rear of the stand occupying part of the Thrifty Van Rental site, supporters with NRE tickets will be able to access the new area once inside stadium.
Offering Amstel lager, Ghostship ale and Wildwave Cider, the new Fan Zone will provide supporters with the opportunity to purchase alcohol in the stand for the first time. A range of soft drinks, pies, crisps and chocolate will also be on offer, as well as a weekly street eat option.
The capacity of the new Fan Zone is set at just over 400 people and will operate inline with the existing Ground Regulations.
At 2:15pm on Saturday, First Team Manager Mark Bonner will be on hand to officially open the Fan Zone, alongside members of Cambridge Fans United (CFU) who have funded 50% of the project. In addition, resident performer Simon Cragg will be playing his signature sound of feel-good tunes throughout the afternoon.
Speaking about the opening of the NRE Fan Zone, CEO Alex Tunbridge stated, "Everyone at the Club is very pleased to be able to finally provided supporters in the NRE with a much needed and improved Matchday experience. The project has been a long time coming and I would like to thank CFU for their financial support to help make this a reality.
"The month of January has not been kind to us from a weather perspective and our contractors, CB Groundworks - who sponsor the Newmarket Road End stand - have gone above and beyond over the past week to ensure we are in a position to open on Saturday, so they deserve a special thank you.
"Now that we have addressed the NRE, we plan to turn our attention to replacing the Abbey Arms with an indoor drinking space for supporters. Subject to feasibility, this will be a project which we will look at undertaking in the summer."
Pre-match pints prior to 2pm are priced at just £4 each and supporters are reminded that the Abbey Stadium is cashless stadium. The Fan Zone will be open from 1:15pm on Saturday until the end of half-time.
