Cambridge United are pleased to announce Liam O'Neil as the Club's new Under 18s Head Coach...
O'Neil rejoins the Club which he spent time seven seasons of his senior career, in addition to the early years of his Academy journey.
As a U, O'Neil made 167 appearances and scored the the all-important opening goal in the promotion-decider against Grimsby Town on the final day of the 2020/21 season.
After leaving the Club during the past summer, O'Neil signed for Boreham Wood, but has now made the decision to retire from playing to take up this opportunity with the Academy.
"It's a really good opportunity for me to help develop young players and give back to a Club which played a big part in my career both as a youth and first team player.
"My end-goal and end-reward now is to develop players into the First Team.
"It's an opportunity I had to grab and I am very grateful to the Club for giving me the chance. I am really ready to get going and can't wait to get into the flow of the job."
Academy Manager, Dom Knighton said, "We are delighted to welcome Liam O’Neil back to the football club as our Professional Development Phase (U18s) Coach.
"As an Academy we are passionate about creating a pathway and providing opportunities for players and staff alike that demonstrate an energy, enthusiasm, and strong work ethic. Throughout the recruitment process Liam demonstrated these qualities alongside his personable approach, humility, and strong ability to self-reflect and thirst for learning.
"Liam joins at an exciting time for the football club, and we are looking forward to seeing the positive impact he will have holistically on our players working closely with Jack Cassidy and Liam Bloye."
