Cambridge United FC are pleased to announce that whilst the Mick George Group have stepped down from being the front of shirt sponsor after 10 seasons, they will continue to be one of the Club’s principal partners, retaining their status as official Waste Management supplier, extending the long term partnership between the two parties...
The new agreement will see the Mick George Group provide sustainable recycling solutions for the large volume of waste generated at all Club facilities.
Since their first involvement, the Mick George Group have provided tremendous support and backing to the Club in a number of significant projects, events, fan engagement and charitable initiatives.
Historically, the partnership has witnessed many memorable moments that will be fondly remembered among the U’s faithful – most notably the promotion to League 1 in 2021, the 2014 season where the Club not only achieved FA Trophy honours for the first time but also returned to the football league, and of course, the giant-killing of Newcastle United in the 2021 FA Cup, and the famous draw against Manchester United FC in the same competition, in 2015.
Head of Commercial at Cambridge United FC, Neil Rowe said, “I am delighted to announce the long-standing strong partnership between Cambridge United and the Mick George Group will continue into 2023/24 as the Club’s Official Waste Partner.
"Firstly, it is important to recognise the contribution the Mick George Group has made to our top 10 ranking in the EFL’s first sustainability table. All waste which is generated at The Abbey Stadium and training ground is processed via their materials recycling facility with an aim towards zero waste to landfill."
"Alongside the environmental contribution, the Mick George Group have been fantastic supporters of the Cambridge United Community Foundation with regular incentives to fundraise for the charity over the past decade.
"We look forward to continuing this special relationship going forward as a principal partner of Cambridge United Football Club."
Jon Stump, Joint CEO at the Mick George Group commented, "We have built a genuine and valued affinity with both the club and supporters since we became the front of shirt sponsor in 2013 and consider that we are seen as much a partner and fellow fan as opposed to just a corporate sponsor.
"Through our association with the club, which dates back well before the shirt sponsorship commenced, we have regularly invested in the club in different capacities.
"The Club is a critical hub for community activation, representing the togetherness that exists in the City. That ethos is something that aligns with our business philosophies and has been a key factor in our decision to renew."
"We are proud to be a Club partner and hope that by continuing this partnership, reflects the fantastic relationship that has been built between the Mick George Group, Cambridge United and its supporters."
