George Hoddle named Terry Baker Scholar of the Year

On Tuesday 11th April, Cambridge United hosted the annual Terry Baker Academy U18s Awards evening, prior to the Terry Baker Memorial Fixture vs West Ham U16 on the Abbey Stadium pitch...

George Hoddle was named The Terry Baker Scholar of the Year, which was presented on the evening by Sean Baker.

Head of Academy Dom Knighton said, "We have been really pleased with George’s first season of his scholarship with the football club. He has been a credit to himself and his family and he demonstrates our Academy values of hard work, being honest and displaying humility in his everyday behaviours.

"His performances on the pitch have been of a consistently high standard and this has been mirrored in the classroom as well. Throughout George’s first year he has had exposure to senior football and has finished the season with Royston Town, which he adapted to seamlessly."

Kai Yearn’s goal against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the FA Youth Cup Quarter Final was voted Goal of the Season, with the award presented by Helen Leaver.

Dom Knighton added, "I think Kai’s goal will be spoken about at the Club and across the Academy for years to come. It is a memory that those involved in the FA Youth Cup run this season will never forget."

Second-year scholars Tom Finch, Gregg Sandiford, Jaydyn Lott, Oscar Winterbone, Dan Barton, Glenn McConnell, Kai Yearn, Faruq Usman and Brandon Njoku were also presented with their Academy Graduation Certificates, which were presented by U18s Youth Team Coach, Jimmy Unwin.
