Cambridge United are delighted to announce the renewal of the Club’s Community Sponsorship with AstraZeneca for the 2022/23 season...
Cambridge United Football Club are pleased to be entering its seventh year in partnership with AstraZeneca, the biopharmaceutical company, initially working together on the Active Science programme inspiring the next generation of scientists through sport.
As Community Sponsor, AstraZeneca enables the work of the Community Trust and Club, making tangible impact on lives across our community. Over the last twelve months, more than 9,000 people engaged with Community Trust activities helping create a healthier, stronger and more equal community.
The range of activities the Community Sponsorship supports include empowering secondary school students to understand more about their mental health, addressing isolation bringing seniors together to enjoy community activities and our AstraZeneca Activate sessions in the holidays helping reduce holiday hunger; over 250 young people attended the programme last season taking part in sports sessions focussed on fun and receive a free, healthy meal.
Sam Gomarsall, Community Trust Manager, said, "We are extremely grateful to AstraZeneca for their ongoing support through this Community Sponsorship. We have a shared belief in promoting the importance of STEM subjects within schools, which we do together through our Active Science Programme. Yet this sponsorship enables the football club to continue to be at the very heart of our community, increasing mental and physical health, whilst bringing people together for a common purpose."
Lisa King, STEM & Community Engagement, Associate Director, AstraZeneca said, "We are delighted to be renewing our Community Sponsorship. The Active Science programme promotes science in schools through sport, and, like many of our community initiatives, enables colleagues from across the company in Cambridge to get involved directly in the delivery of the programme creating a sense of belonging through volunteering. Having seen the tremendous work the Club and Trust do across Cambridge, it is a privilege to work together on a range of really impactful community initiatives."
Neil Rowe, Head of Commercial added, " This renewal is fantastic news for Cambridge United Football Club and our Community Trust. We are proud to be working with a company that not only is recognised internationally for their work, especially during the global pandemic, but also recognised locally for their community work through Cambridge United Community Trust and other partnerships."
