Over 200 local school pupils competed last Friday (11th November) for the chance to represent Cambridge United in the annual Utilita Girls and Kids Cups...
Cambridge United Community Trust (CUCT) hosted both local tournaments at Bottisham Sports Centre with 8 teams competing in the U13 Girls Cup in the morning, followed by 13 primary schools contesting the U11 Kids Cup competition later in the day.
The standard of play across both tournaments was of an incredibly high level, with all matches keenly contested. Highlighting the competitive nature of the games were multiple penalty shoot outs witnessed throughout the day. A sense of fair play and a positive sporting attitude were also clearly evident, with all participants a credit to their schools.
The Girls Cup saw Soham Village College run out as winners, following a 3-0 victory over Trumpington Community College in the final. In the Kids Cup, Milton Primary School prevailed after a tense penalty shootout against Mayfield.
Both Soham and Milton will now go on to represent the U’s at area level, competing against schools representing local professional clubs. We wish both teams every success as they continue in the competition, hopefully both ending up at Wembley for the national finals!
Many thanks to all staff from the following schools who organised for their teams to attend:
Girls Cup: Bottisham Village College, Castle Manor School, Coleridge Community College, North Cambridge Academy, Soham Village College, Swavesey Village College, Trumpington Community College
Kids Cup: Colville, Duxford, Galfrid, Grove, Howard, Mayfield, Milton, Orchard Park, Park Street, Ridgefield, Shelford, Shirley, Stapleford
Special thanks also go to the Sports Leaders from Bottisham Village College, who refereed and administered both tournaments brilliantly throughout the day.
Finally, thank you to Bottisham Sports Centre staff who were so supportive of these competitions in allowing CUCT to use their facilities for both tournaments.
