Glenn McConnell has received his first international call-up for Republic of Ireland Under 18s...
The 17-year-old has been named in Colin O'Brien's 22-man squad for a friendly tournament against Sweden, Denmark and Croatia. He is among five players in the squad to receive their first call-up.
Academy Manager Dom Knighton said, "Everyone at Cambridge United are really proud of Glenn on his call up. Unfortunately he had to withdraw from a previous squad at the beginning of the season through injury so we are delighted that he has received another opportunity.
"We feel that we have some really talented players across our Academy age groups and to see a number of individuals get international recognition and to test themselves in these environments are invaluable.
"We would like to congratulate Glenn and his family who have supported him on his journey coming all the way through our Academy programme. Like all of our young players, he still have a long way to go and this is another experience that will further aid his development.”
