Liam Bennett has signed a new two year contract with an option to extend for a further 12 months...
The 20-year-old made 10 appearances for the U’s last season after signing his first professional deal, including two Man of the Match performances in League One.
Bennett originally joined the club from AFC Sudbury in 2020 via partner Club St Neots Town, before being drafted into the First Team set-up one year later.
“I am delighted,” Bennett said. “It’s a great opportunity for me and another step in the right direction with a Club that is going in the right direction too. I can’t wait to keep kicking on and enjoying my time here.
“It’s been a big learning experience throughout last year. I am just looking forward to keep making progress and keep proving my worth.”
Mark Bonner said, “Liam has had an encouraging season with some excellent performances in the league and cup competitions. Coupled with games on loan and in our development team, he has been a regular part of first team training and his improvements have been clear to see.
“He is tenacious and has a focus that all the young players can learn from. His resilience and drive will accelerate his progress and his aim is to secure more senior appearances next season in order to continue working towards establishing himself in the first team.
“We are excited to see that progress in the years ahead.”
Bennett joins Adam May, Will Mannion, Harrison Dunk and Greg Taylor to become the fifth player to renew terms with the Club.
