Alex Tunbridge has been appointed Chief Executive Officer at Cambridge United and will be joining the Club in the Spring from Stevenage Football Club where he currently holds the same position…
Shaun Grady, Chairman of the Cambridge United Board said, “We are very pleased to announce that Alex will be our next Chief Executive after a very thorough search and interview process involving people at every level of the Club - owners, board members and staff from both the football and business side.
“We believe that Alex will be a great fit for Cambridge United and that his experience and energy will continue to help move the Club forward.
“He will join us in April for a handover with current CEO Ian Mather at which time we will have the opportunity to thank and acknowledge Ian for the tremendous contribution he has made to the Club over recent times.”
Alex began his professional career at AFC Bournemouth as a Young Fans Coordinator before moving to Stevenage Football Club where he established their Foundation, managing it over a period of seven years.
After spending a year in the United States of America working on several football projects, he joined fan owned Newport County AFC as CEO and oversaw one of the Club’s most memorable recent periods as they staved off relegation from the EFL in dramatic fashion and enjoyed several successful FA Cup runs.
In 2018, he re-joined Stevenage FC as CEO where he helped facilitate the regeneration of the Club’s stadium, including the building of a new stand funded by innovative equity raises. Several high-profile commercial deals were also completed under his stewardship, including partnerships with Burger King and Amazon Prime Gaming. During the COVID-19 pandemic he was also responsible for overseeing the Club’s extensive award-winning work in the local community and most recently has been appointed to the FA’s Judicial Panel.
