Cambridge United take on West Ham United in the Terry Baker Memorial Fixture Abbey Stadium on Tuesday night…
United’s U16s will take on West Ham United’s U16s as we pay tribute to a true Cambridge United legend. Terry passed away at the age of 83 in 2018 and played a huge part in the history of the Club.
Terry was the Club Chairman on three occasions, served on the Board of Directors and was named an Honorary Director of the Football Club in 2016. A passionate supporter of the Club since 1947, Terry also provided financial support during some of the club’s darkest hours, ensuring its survival.
Head of Academy Tom Pell said, “We are really looking forward to what should be a cracking game at the Abbey Stadium. We are delighted to welcome West Ham Utd and I would like to pass on our thanks to them for agreeing to the game.
“This is something that we started with our U15/16 group pre pandemic and is something we look forward to celebrating on an annual basis moving forwards. Terry was a U’s legend and supported both the Club and the Academy over many years and we feel it is only right to recognise this. We are looking forward to welcoming several members of Terry’s family on the night.”
Val Baker, Terry’s wife has kindly arranged for our Scholars to partake in a Player of the Season and Goal of the Season ceremony to celebrate the achievements of our young apprentices both on-and-off the pitch.
The Terry Baker Player of the Season and Goal of the Season Awards will be presented in the Executive Lounge prior to the game.
"I would like to thank Val and her family for all their support through the years and for their contribution on the night for making it a great experience for everyone involved," Tom added.
“I urge supporters who may have seen a glimpse of our young apprentices during this season’s FA Youth Cup run to come to the game and watch our U15 and U16 players, so they can experience all that the Abbey has to offer.
“It would be greatly appreciated and I am confident you will enjoy seeing some of our promising young players giving their all for the badge.”
Tickets for the match are available on the night or from cufctickets.com for just £5 Adults, £1 Children.
